Transport Modes by Energy Use (2013)

Transport Modes by Energy Use (2013)
This is a list of transport modes by energy use. Transport has a major impact on environment and contributes to about 14 % of the world's annual greenhouse gas emissions (Wikilists list of greenhouse gas emissions by source). Road and air transports stands for almost 90 % of the energy used by the transport sector while train and boat transports stands for very small amount of the energy used given the amount of ton-miles traveled (Wikilists list of energy efficient transport modes). To reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transport in the future, transport by train and boat will likely increase in importance. These two transport modes together stands for less than 3 % of worlds global transport emissions.
