Most Energy Efficient Freight Modes by Carbon Dioxide Emissions per Tonne-km
This is a list of the most common freight modes by carbon dioxide emission per tonne-km. The table is based on estimates from EIA, EPA and EEA. Maritime freight tops the list closely followed by rail freight. On-road freight contributes to almost ten times as much carbon emissions per tonne-km while the same figure for air fright is as high as about 100 times (!) the emissions from maritime per tonne-km.
