Loss of forest is a major source of global greenhouse gas emissions. Forestry contributes to about 17 % of total annual global greenhouse gas emissions. That is for an example more than the total global greenhouse gas emission from transport.
As the list reveals, a few countries in the top of the list, especially Brazil, is responsible for a large proportion of total global deforestation. A more preservable approach to the forests in these countries could reduce the global greenhouse gas emissions significantly.
